Black Children Kicked Out Of Private Pool

What happened to that post-racial society they say that we live in? Are you ready for the reason why they kicked the kids out? They kicked them out because they were afraid that the black kids would "change the complexion of the place."

No, really. Here are some other details:
"When the minority children got in the pool all of the Caucasian children immediately exited the pool," Horace Gibson, parent of a day camp child, wrote in an email. "The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately."

Prom Night: Separate But Equal Style

The ghosts of segregation live on. So much for living in a post-racial society.

Racially segregated proms have been held in Montgomery County — where about two-thirds of the population is white — almost every year since its schools were integrated in 1971. Such proms are, by many accounts, longstanding traditions in towns across the rural South, though in recent years a number of communities have successfully pushed for change. When the actor Morgan Freeman offered to pay for last year’s first-of-its-kind integrated prom at Charleston High School in Mississippi, his home state, the idea was quickly embraced by students — and rejected by a group of white parents, who held a competing “private” prom. (The effort is the subject of a documentary, “Prom Night in Mississippi,” which will be shown on HBO in July.) The senior proms held by Montgomery County High School students — referred to by many students as “the black-folks prom” and “the white-folks prom” — are organized outside school through student committees with the help of parents. All students are welcome at the black prom, though generally few if any white students show up. The white prom, students say, remains governed by a largely unspoken set of rules about who may come. Black members of the student council say they have asked school administrators about holding a single school-sponsored prom, but that, along with efforts to collaborate with white prom planners, has failed. According to Timothy Wiggs, the outgoing student council president and one of 21 black students graduating this year, “We just never get anywhere with it.” Principal Luke Smith says the school has no plans to sponsor a prom, noting that when it did so in 1995, attendance was poor. source

The CW Cancels 'The Game'

DAMN, DAMN, DAMN
I don't watch much TV, but of the few shows that I did watch was 'The Game.' It's funny how this show and 'Everybody Hates Chris' never got the equal promo push as the other CW shows. It was moved to Friday nights, which is considered the worst night for sitcoms. Hopefully Mara Brock Akil, the shows executive producer, can shop the show to other networks. This is sad though. source

L’Oreal Is At It Again

L'Oreal has whitewashed Frieda Pinto in its newest campaign ad. Could they be doing this on purpose or is this just a result of lighting and airbrushing? A while back, the cosmetics company did a number on beYAWNce. But I'm sure she didn't mind, with her being "creole" and being "jealous" that she's not a Latina.

Oprah's Causing Riots

Remember those free chicken coupons Oprah gave out on her website? Because of that, all hell broke loose. source

"I just returned from my lunch break hoping to use the attached couponto score some free KFC grilled chicken at the mid town location 47 E.42nd Street. Well I guess around 200 people also had the same ideawith coupons in hand....When I finally gave up (after 30 minutes of aguing with othercustomers) a small RIOT started going on outside the store with peoplescreaming at the manager while he wont let them use their free KFCcoupons (issued by OPRAH)"
A race war almost insued too:
"I went over to our nearest KFC a few minutes ago (this was around 42nd and Park)and chaos ensued. Despite the very visible grilled chicken behind the register, the manager told everyone with coupons to leave and that the promotion was over for the day. The people there are currently holding a sit-in and refusing to leave until they get their free chicken...or the cops are called. Racial epithets were being spewed, people who actually wanted to pay for chicken were facing a potential beatdown, and the manager ran from the screaming horde. Oprah, what have ye wrought?"

Shoegate 2009

Its seems that Mrs. Obama's shoes have created a bit of controversy.

First Lady Michelle Obama is catching some flak for sporting pricey sneakers while volunteering at a food bank here with congressional spouses. The footwear has been identified by sharp eyed fashion mavens as made by the French design house Lanvin and costing more than $500. The congressional spouse bagging groceries with the First Lady is a fellow Illinoisan—Bob Creamer, the husband of Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.).
I didn't hear many conservatives complaining about Cindy McCain's RNC outfit that cost $300,000. source

Naomi Campbell continues to put the fashion industry on blast for not hiring black models. Oscar De La Renta, recently criticized Mrs. Obama for not wearing high-end designers. Naomi says:

"Why would she concern herself with mainstream designers who don't even put their clothes on women who look like her in ads or fashion shows?'' source

Does Racism Go Both Ways?

I guess Ricky Ross is feeling very full of himself after scoring the number 1 album on the charts this week because here he is talking hella sh*t in this video clip. He has said recently that he has grown "bored" feuding with 50 cent and might "go at" Eminem. He says that it's "black on black racial" to call 50 cent a monkey and proceeds to call Eminem a "honkey."

Asher Roth caused a Internet uproar for his twitter post last week, claiming that he was "hanging out with nappy headed hos."

Should Officer Ricky get called out for his slur as hard as Asher Roth had/has been?

Assessing Prez Obama's "swagga?!" Did CNN assess Bush's "swagga?" No wonder CNN is dead last in cable news. I'm so disappointed in T.J. Holmes as fine as he is. SMDH

Asher Roth Gets Reckless

The story is that he finished performing at Rutgers U, and started posting via Twitter. With one post he says "hanging out with nappy headed hos" a la Don Imus. After some people commented that they were offended by that, he apologized. Hmm...These celebs need to start thinking things out before they type. Twitter can be an enemy. I believe it's the debil. source

Is This Ad Racist?

Some people have their panties in a bunch over the latest Popeye's commercial which features "Annie the Chicken Queen." Honestly, when I first saw the commercial I didn't think much of it. Now what I don't like is how when you've tuned into one of three black shows on all of television, they only show commericals featuring black people. Notice how those black commercials are never really shown during mainstream (read: white) tv shows. But what say you?

Popeye's has released a statement saying:
Annie, our new advertising character, expresses the heart and soul of the Popeyes brand. Her lively personality and energy underscore the pride, passion and authenticity that go into our carefully prepared, delicious, Louisiana-style chicken. We are proud of this campaign. However, we have heard conversations around the character. We are taking that feedback and are looking for ways to broaden Annie's appeal to our consumers.source

OMG, The Horror!

It seems as if the weekend edition of the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch, Go! magazine, caused quite a bit of a stir. But the controversy wasn't over an article, readers were upset over the cover, which featured a black man and a white woman kissing. It seems as if a significant part of the country in the year 2009, still has a problem with interracial dating. Despite some of the most popular celebrities (Halle Berry, Tiger Woods, Mariah Carey) and the election of Barack Obama being biracial, many of the comments of Go! magazine were filled with hatred and ignorance. I really thought that the election of Barack Obama would truly effect some of the people in America and help them to maybe free their minds a la En Vogue. But I guess I was wrong. Oh well, I guess it'll take some time, probably not.
Here are some comments:
"Haven’t read the story but dont like to see
blacks and whites kissing;”

"This doesn’t surprise me at all. Libs take every opportunity they can to shove miscegnation in our faces. Now that TV has to show blacks in every commercial, notice that they are always posed beside a blonde woman. Not a brunette, a blonde. Its done for shock value. Sickening that a once proud newspaper would resort ot this. Joe Pulitzer is turning over in his grave in shame.”

"So, on this acceptance topic: I am supposed to accept that some people choose to have interracial relationships. That is fine with me, do what you want. However, I choose to think it is not something I would expose myself to. The PD is a public news media, just like television. Why does this have to be shoved down my throat? Why isn’t everyone else supposed to accept my opinion on the matter? I am not supposed to do, say or show pictures of things that offend you, but why can you say, do and show pictures of things that offend me? Can someone please come up with an intelligent answer?

Welcome to the 21st Century. source

Naomi Campbell Calls The Modeling World Racist

Naomi Campbell has called out the modeling world before for constantly shutting out models of color. But even as the president of the most powerful country in the world being a person of color and his wife being a brown skinned black woman, she says that in the modeling world, things have actually gotten worse:
“You know, the American president may be black, but as black woman, I am still an exception in this business. I always have to work harder to be treated equally,” the runway model explained to a German addition of Glamour magazine.....In the past, there were more opportunities for black models but the trend towards blond women has again become extreme. In magazines, on the catwalk, I see blond, blue-eyed models everywhere.” source
